Strong’s Neck is accessible from the Long Island Expressway via EXIT 62. This quaint hamlet was originally known as “Little Neck”. It is North of Main Street surrounded by The Long Island Sound, Conscience Bay, Setauket Harbor and Port Jefferson Harbor. It has a lovely private beach for the residences called Minasseroke Beach.

Strong’s Neck is rich in history. In the 17th century it was the home of William Smith
whose great-granddaughter Anna (Strong) was part of a Spy Ring during the American Revolution and part of George Washington’s Culper Spy Ring. The purpose of the ring was to gather intelligence in New York City, the heart of British operations, and pass this information on to Washington. An elaborate system of riders and couriers was established who used aliases, a coded dictionary and invisible ink to pass on messages. Anna communicated among the spies via the color of clothes hung on her clothes line on Strong’s Neck.
